If you're reading this post, you probably want to get to know more about who runs this website and who makes / designs the products. Well, good news! You're in the right place.
I'm Emil (they/them), I'm 23 and and a lesbian. I started Emil's Doodles in January 2020, yes the before times. I was 19 and wanted to do something with my art. Which has worked out!
Ever since I was a child, I've always loved all things ghosts and spooky. I grew up watching, drawing, and playing with monster high dolls. My favourite was Draculaura of course; pink and black colour scheme? Sign me up! My parents also used to take me around local cemeteries to look at the headstones, and wonder about the lives of those who died hundreds of years ago. I still love to walk around cemeteries to this day; I find them calming. My favourite cemetery to walk around is Watts Chapel in Compton, Surrey. It has so many beautiful and unique headstones, the chapel itself is breath taking.
From the age of 13 I was home-schooled. Probably due to being neurodivergent, mainstream school stressed me tf out! Like IBS, and crying all day everyday due it. I resisted so long due to not wanting to be alone, but I already was. So when I started, my parent's put me in as many youth groups as possible. I still didn't make friends, but I was out and being around other teens.
After I came out, I attended a queer youth group. Which I feel conflicted about. As I enjoyed being around other LGBTQ+ people my age and engaging in my community, but I also met my abuser there...so yeah I'm conflicted. 😂
I got my first tattoo in January 2020 as a 19th birthday present to myself. It was a little ghost on the inside of my forearm, done by Kit at Granny's Attic in Guildford. It was when I started to really get into my love of spooky things since I was a child. I was finally becoming my own person, as I had shaped my personality and taste into what I thought my first girlfriend would like, which made me miserable as that wasn't me. Getting my tattoo helped me step into myself; become the person I am today. So thank you, tattoos, you've helped me show who I am with pretty drawings on my body.
Despite my love of ghosts, I haven't had many of my own experiences. I believe I've seen the ghost of my cat, Izzy when I was 17. I was home alone, with both of our cats Maisy and Mo, when I saw a shadow jump down from my desk in to the hallway. I thought it was a trick of the light, but Mo, who was on my lap at the time, was trying to see what had gone into the hallway. So needless to say, I was freaked out.
I have always loved to draw, and even when I'm not working I'm still drawing. I use Clip Studio Paint as my main medium to draw. I started using it in 2014 when my parents bought me a small Wacom tablet for Christmas.
In 2022, I went through therapy to get a handle on OCD. Luckily it no longer affects me (yayy!!). I also think I have that ADHD but I'm not diagnosed as I keep forgetting to re-book my assessment...😅
